Building a society in harmony with our environment

Through glass recycling, we at West Japan Glass Recycle Center are working towards a society in harmony with our environment. We’d like to tell you about what we do to protect the environment and to contribute to our local community.
Through firmly-established community activities, we aim to raise awareness regarding the large quantities of waste glass produced in daily life and how it can be recycled and, by doing so, help to protect the environment and contribute to our community.

Monthly clean-up operation

Cleaning up the streets of the industrial park around our plant

On the first Wednesday of each month, all of our staff take part in a clean-up of the streets around our plant.
We collect about 80 kg of trash each time and send it to other firms for recycling at our own expense.
You’d be surprised at what kind of items fall from vehicles in an industrial park. We want the area around our plant to be safe not just for delivery vehicles, but also for visitors’ vehicles.

Safety training & environmental awareness meetings

In March every year, we bring in an instructor and hold a safety training session for all of our staff. By understanding the capabilities of the heavy equipment that they operate every day, our staff are able to avoid overburdening it, which in turn helps to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and cut CO2 emissions. Classroom-based hazard prediction and near-miss training raises awareness of safety issues and contributes to improving the work environment.
In order to increase safety awareness and raise skill levels, we encourage each of our staff to take part in training courses and also provide financial support for obtaining new qualifications.

Akatsuki-no-Kane Academy Children’s Home

Akatsuki-no-Kane Academy takes in, safeguards and nurtures children who, for whatever reason, have nowhere else to go or have been unavoidably separated from their parents.
We are keen to support the Academy, so we contribute by paying them visits, welcoming residents for tours of our plant and giving them opportunities for work experience. We have also donated JPY 300,000 towards their running costs.

Our appearance in Wakamatsu Ward Company Visits

We welcomed students from Wakamatsu High School’s corporate research team, ‘Wakamatsu-gaku’, for a tour of our plant and interviews with our staff.
They rated our specialized glass recycling initiatives highly enough to publish the results of their research and name us as an ‘excellent local company’ in Wakamatsu Ward Company Visits, created by them with the backing of Wakamatsu Ward Office.
